AI Literacy for Families · Pitjantjatjara
Week 5 — Walytja-ku rules palyantjaku / Household rules
Pitj: Rules wiya palya nintiringu — wiya tjana agree. Rule mulamula palya nintiringu mara-ngka palyani. Week-pa nyangatja — most collaboration. Goal wiya parent rulebook — goal walytja agreement — tjana mokulpa hai signature, two side palyantja, two side signing.
Eng: Rules fail when imposed without agreement. This is the most collaborative week. The goal is not a parental rulebook — it’s a household agreement that everybody helps write, and everybody signs.
Discussion
- AI uses clearly fine? Clearly off-limits? Grey zone?
- School — when AI tool (like calculator)? When cheating? School rule — do you agree?
- AI companion — emotional support — palya when? Substitute for real friend — when start?
- Tjitji parent-ngka: parent nyaa stop-ani? Parent tjitji-ngka: tjitji nyaa start-ani?
- “Call a human” rule — when do you both agree to stop the app and talk to a real person?
Activity / Palyani: “Household AI agreement”
Use one shared document. Build five short sections together:
- Mara roipuru AI / What we use AI for — homework help, recipes, brainstorming, image edits
- Mara wiya roipuru AI / What we don’t use AI for — personal photos uploaded to image generators, real names/addresses shared, replacing a real friend or counsellor
- Mara watjala always / What we always disclose — “if I used AI for school work I’ll tell the teacher if asked”; “if I edited a photo with AI before posting I’ll say so”
- Time/place rules — no AI companions after 10pm; no phones in bedrooms overnight; one screen-free meal a day
- Call-a-human list — mental health questions, medical symptoms, legal trouble, anything scary
Both sign and date. Put it somewhere visible. Review in 90 days.
